The role is based in our Manchester HQ, with much of the initial contact via phone and digital comms, and building strong relationships with our channel partner will also be important. There will be regular travel to Europe (monthly). This role is focused on new business, and you will thrive on the challenge of identifying sales opportunities and turning new contacts into long term business relationships.

  • Proven new business / hunter skills, with experience of working with third party channel partners
  • Good working knowledge of German essential
  • Can clearly demonstrate 3-5 years’ success in selling solutions based on value not price; within one or more for the following market sectors – Digital / Technology marketing, FMCG, Gaming, Toys, Sport, Media…

Working closely with our CTO and tech team in our Manchester office, you will be responsible for undertaking, planning and delivering an array of software development projects. This is very much a hands-on role and will include improving existing code in terms of clean coding, implementing industry standards and improving security as well as developing best-of-breed technical solutions.

Although you’ll be joining us to showcase your technical expertise, with our team culture, we really hope you’ll take an interest in the wider aspects of our business and people and want to get involved in what we do, e.g. mentoring less experienced members of the tech team. Working in our Manchester office, you will be supporting the Chief Technical Officer and Development team to deliver best-of-breed online products and services based on user needs and business objectives, via quality design, coding and testing of technical solutions.

You will have the opportunity to develop your skills in web and database technologies (PHP JavaScript, SQL, WordPress, RDBMS technologies, Power BI) whilst supporting the continued smooth running of IT processes and products including, but not limited to websites, portals and market reports.

We now need an outstanding, proactive individual who will be our go-to person for everything related to IT. However, we don’t expect you to know everything and will provide training as part of your professional development with us.

Working in our Manchester HQ, your principal responsibilities will include:

  • Tech support for our award winning portal
  • Support on all devices; laptop and mobile

Working from our Manchester HQ, your role will be to provide the most comprehensive and up to date market intelligence available on the kids sector.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring the Product team are keeping surveys up to date, delivering the On Track reports to a high standard and supporting the sales/marketing/account teams with data and insights.
  • Ensure that all reports are produced in line with best practice
  • Drafting On Track reports quickly, but including strong insights which are relevant and interesting for our clients
  • Ensuring all work is on brand
  • Ensuring that all reports are completed and distributed according to report calendar
  • Supporting marketing with the creation of sales & marketing assets to communicate our offering
  • Producing quick data and insight reports for new business development and client growth opportunities
  • Survey testing
  • Overseeing all local translations ensuring quality control checks are in order
  • Creating a research library resource
  • Implementation and management of research library into portal

Applicants should have the following experience and characteristics:

  • c12 months experience in co-ordinating and delivering quantitative market research projects
  • An ability to write clearly and concisely, in a manner that is interesting to readers
  • Strong numerical ability and a confident grasp of statistics/data
  • Excellent desk research skills
  • Some international experience would be helpful (particularly Germany or France). Language skills would also be advantageous. Some exposure to US and / or Indian markets would be a bonus.

Salary Range £28K – £34K

Fixed Term Contract (18 months)

We want you to share our vision in creating the most innovative market intelligence platform, and through collaboration with our wider team will play a key role in establishing The Insights People as the global leader in kids’ market intelligence.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Delivery of a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) designed to embed a machine learning capability within Kids Insights’ existing database and report generating software. The machine learning will initially provide market segmentation which will lead on to tracking and predicting trends for Business Intelligence.
  • Employed and supported by a team of academic experts from the university, you will be based at The Insight People’s premises in Manchester.
  • Ensuring successful stated project outcomes and compliance with MMU, Innovate UK and Access Systems procedures and financial regulations through acting as overall project manager.

Tasks include:

  • Familiarise themselves with the technological requirements of the project including machine learning and review existing datasets and databases used by The Insights People. Market sector and customer selection activities will be completed, in line with project validation and testing activities, utilising the ‘early adopters’ approach favoured by The Insights People.
  • Participate in initial training (facilitated by the Knowledge Base Team) with appropriate staff from The Insights People and academic supervisors.
  • Design, implement and evaluate state of the art and emerging machine learning algorithms suitable for the problem domain, including integration with existing system(s).
  • Undertake activities (e.g., presentations, dissemination workshops, final report) to ensure that machine learning knowledge and capability for future product development is fully transferred and embedded within The Insights People, with a clear strategy developed for future product developments, based on new skills and approaches.
  • Write and submit for publication (to suitable, reputable publications) high-quality academic papers discussing the main findings and novel contributions of the work carried out.

Project Management:

  • To undertake the workplan as defined in the KTP proposal and to maintain project management documentation (including a Gantt chart) in order to manage the KTP Project effectively.
  • To organise and lead monthly Project Team meetings and to actively contribute to the quarterly Local Management Committee meeting which includes a written executive summary and to formally present a project update with proposals for future plans during the meetings.
  • To collaborate in the development of academic papers, case studies and PR opportunities as agreed with the project team.
  • To be responsible for planning own personal and professional development including maintenance of a Personal Development Plan.

  • Ability to perform software design, implementation, testing, and version control (e.g., Git and GitHub) using sound software engineering principles and practices. Wealth of experience in suitable Object Oriented programming languages (e.g. Java, C#, C++)
  • Ability to understand and implement algorithms and to produce fully-documented and reproducible data science pipelines
  • Knowledge and experience of coding in Python and its Data Science ecosystem (e.g., NumPy, pandas, Matplotlib, scikit-learn, PyTorch, Keras)
  • An MSc in Computer Science, Artificial intelligence, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or related discipline. OR a good first class (Hons) degree in a relevant subject such as Data Science or Computer Science with evidence of conducting a machine learning (or AI) project
  • Experience with developing end-to-end data science projects in a suitable ecosystem, preferably Python
  • Experience in most stages of data science pipelines, including data extraction, integration, cleaning, normalisation, model building with inferential statistics and machine learning, and data visualisation
  • Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases and query languages
  • Experience in selection and application of suitable machine learning algorithms for a specific problem.
